Online Information Center

The Academy makes extensive use of digital tools and technology to make its collections accessible to scholars and to the public. Over the past years the Academy has invested considerably in its digital presence, its system for public inquiries, and its activities on social media, to make more information available to the public and to broaden its audience.

That investment has paid off, and public interest, engagement, and utilization of the Academy’s services have increased substantially. In addition to the hundreds of thousands of unique visitors per month, the Academy also receives, and answers, over 1,000 questions a month about Hebrew words and terms from visitors on the website.

The Academy’s Social Media Division has brought the Academy’s work to the attention of new audiences and elicited substantial feedback from Israelis, and from across the globe. The number of the Academy’s social media platforms followers continues to increase, reaching over a million followers on its social media channels, demonstrating the broad range of interest and importance of the Academy.

The Academy administers the following online databases, with plans to add more in the future:

  • the Ma’agarim database of the Historical Dictionary Project
  • the database of Hebrew terms (the terminology website)
  • a collection of the Academy’s rulings on grammar, spelling, punctuation, transcription
  • a collection of responses to inquiries from the public
  • a collection of stories and histories of words
  • verb-conjugation tables and noun-declension tables
  • a dictionary of modern Hebrew

In December 2018, the Academy launched a new tool enabling visitors to search the entire website for a Hebrew word or phrase. The tool retrieves information on that word or phrase from the entirety of the Academy’s databases. The Online Information Center thus curates a wealth of information about Hebrew language and about Hebrew composition through the ages. The Academy plans to expand its current online offerings to the public and add lexical and bibliographical databases to the Online Information Center.
